Shooting Mastery: Power, Placement, and Consistency

A great shot requires the perfect combination of power, placement, and precision. Begin by practicing stationary shots from 10 meters out, focusing on accuracy. Divide the goal into 6 target zones (top corners, bottom corners, and the center on each side) and aim for each zone 5 times. Pay attention to your non-kicking foot placement—it should point toward your target—and ensure you strike the ball cleanly with the instep of your foot.

Once you’re comfortable with stationary shots, move on to dynamic shooting. Dribble the ball toward the goal from 15 meters out and take a shot on the move. Repeat this drill 20 times per session to improve your ability to score during high-pressure situations. For added difficulty, have a goalkeeper or teammate act as a defender to simulate match scenarios.

To refine your technique further, work on different shot types. Spend 10 minutes practicing low-driven shots by keeping the ball close to the ground. Then, dedicate another 10 minutes to curling the ball into the corners using the inside of your foot. End your session with 10 volleys, focusing on connecting with the ball while it’s airborne. By dedicating 3-4 days a week to shooting practice, you’ll become a more versatile and effective scorer.
